Accidental Blogger

I first heard this story on Thursday, on the local news in Houston. It appears that with the bird flu panic in full swing, some unscrupulous individuals have seen an opportunity to cash in on people’s anxiety. More than 1000 employees of an Exxon Mobil plant in Bay Town, near Houston have been vaccinated with fake flu vaccine which turned out to be nothing more potent than purified water. As I pointed out in another recent post,  Heads I Win, Tails You Lose, widespread panic and helplessness constitute the perfect climate for cold hearted, calculated opportunism.  I am afraid that this may not be the last and only instance of bogus medicine and dangerous profiteering. As fear spreads about impending epidemics, other charlatans will find ways to make a quick buck from quackery.
