Did you hear it?  Did you hear Barack Obama’s acceptance speech earlier tonight in Denver? I hope you did. It was as close to flawless as a political message can get. Joe Biden, John Kerry and Al Gore had set the ball rolling with good speeches reminding the country what is at stake in this election … and Obama hit it out of the Mile High Stadium. I don’t remember hearing anything like this in an organized political forum.  Obama didn’t flinch or hesitate. He soared and dipped like a musician who is confident of hitting all the right notes. He was like a street fighter reciting fine poetry – fabulous words and sharp elbows. He answered his critics who have called him a celebrity, unpatriotic, risky and given to empty rhetoric.  Best of all, Obama squarely took on John McCain and fearlessly enumerated his ideological flaws and political missteps. Obama’s speech had enough policy meat in it to cook McCain’s goose (I hope). I am sure McCain couldn’t be very happy – I bet he knows it will be an awfully tough act to follow.  Perhaps this time he wishes he had been in a cone of silence instead of listening.

I have recovered somewhat from my dispirited lethargy about the election. In fact I feel much better – almost as good as I had felt after Iowa.

  1. I thought the convention would bore people silly…but the overall reaction seems to be very positive, so that’s good news.
It’s nice to be wrong sometimes, especially when it comes to something this important.
