Apparently he is "a decent person and a person that you do not have to be scared of as President of the United States."  Or so says John McCain.

One interesting thing about that Boston Globe article: it sure looks as if John McCain corrected a supporter’s assertion that Obama is "an Arab" — i.e., a secret Muslim — with the counter-assertion that Obama is a good family man who is wrong on the issues.  Either this is incredibly irresponsible journalism, or John McCain thinks and/or is saying that Arab heritage (or Islamic faith) is counterposed with being a decent human being.

One other bizarre thing that surfaces in that article: the popularity of the Republicans’ "Obama is the most liberal Senator" meme.  Even if you think that Obama has been a very liberal Senator, this is just absurd (and I would not agree with such a characterization).  There’s no way that Obama’s voting record and past statements even approach those of, say, Ted Kennedy or Russ Feingold.

All these tiresome “Arab”, “Muslim”, “pallin’ with terrist” etc. memes are just code words for one single major complaint “Black”.
These are people who wouldn’t give McCain the time of the day if his skin color were anything but white. All they have to cling to is the ‘whiteness’ of their candidate, rather than his policies and takes on the most pressing issues facing us.
