Van Gogh did not kill himself, authors claim (Norman Costa)

Vincent Van Gogh did not kill himself, the authors of new biography Van Gogh: The Life have claimed.

Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith say that, contrary to popular belief, it was more likely he was shot accidentally by two boys he knew who had "a malfunctioning gun".

Dutch master Van Gogh died in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, in 1890 aged 37.

    I commented earlier, but TypePad relegated my comment to a spam folder. All hail the Internet, the most seamless, transparent, and effective mode of communication since semaphore!
    My comment pointed out this article about the authors of this book: http://www.people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20142383,00.html. These guys have been at it for decades, writing about crime, law, art, and whatever else strikes them. I had an odd sensation that one of them had died long ago, but no. Smith has been battling brain cancer for ages, but he has survived (obviously). What has he done with the experience? Well, he wrote a book about it, yet another in the pair’s long list of popular titles, one of which won a Pulitzer Prize.

    Thanks, I didn’t know that. I just found it an interesting story, but it seemed to ring more true to me. But, that’s just an impression.
