Perhaps George W. Bush has a touch of insanity. The horrendous mess in Iraq, Monica Gate at the Justice Department , Scooter Libby, Cheney’s fall guy going to jail and his presidency slated to go down in US history as the worst so far, George W. Bush is hopping mad. No wonder the trusted aides he brought from Texas with him and who were instrumental in putting this inept man in a position of super power are leaving the farm one by one. To date the faithful who have departed include Andrew Card, Harriet Miers, Scott McClellan and now Bush’s longest serving staffer from Texas, Dan Bartlett (who now looks much older than his chronological age of thirty six – such is the stress of defending the indefensible). Only two major players remain from Bush’s Texas days – Karl Rove and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (Where CAN these two go?). It is true that staffers leave all the time, especially in the second term of a presidency and if the regime is controversial and failing, that happens with greater frequency. I am sure that most of those who left ran out of alibis to shield a president who is as incompetent as he is headstrong, from criticism at home and abroad. It must have been an exhausting job to put up a brave face as disaster after disaster come to light during Bush’s train wreck of a presidency. It could also be that Bush’s arrogant obduracy and temper tantrums have soured even his most loyal followers.
If the following report is to be believed, not satisfied with the harm he has done so far, the angry and vindictive Bush wants to ensure that his toxic legacy will take his successors years to clean up.
Friends of his from Texas were shocked recently to find him nearly wild-eyed, thumping himself on the chest three times while he repeated "I am the president!" He also made it clear he was setting Iraq up so his successor could not get out of "our country’s destiny."

That article IS frightening. Nothing like a little megalomania in the White House to make things more interesting for the whole world, eh.

Hey Snave:
Where have you been? Long time, no see! Haven’t seen Matt either for a while.
You are right. The article is scary. I am not even sure that these terror groups that are sprouting up in unlikely places and claiming allegiance to Al Qaida, have any real connection to the Bin Laden gang. It seems like every group disgruntled with the US world policy (specifically in the middle east) gets riled up, fires the guns and claims to be Al Qaida. The more the Republicans want us to hide under our beds in fear of Al Qaida, the more it is to the advantage of these terrorist wannabes to pretend that they are connected to the grand poobah! To hear the Republican presidential candidates speak, we ought to round up every Muslim, expand Guantanamo Bay prison and most important, trust THEM to keep us safe.
Unfortunately, the Dems are so scared of their “weak on national defense,” reputation, that they too have been pretty intemperate in their judgement. I wouldn’t put it past them to try to outdo the Republicans in machismo and start invading countries.
I am not sure what the answer is (apart from Al Gore running for president) but every time I think that things can’t get any worse, they do.

Actually, I’m not so sure that they would benefit by claiming to be Al-Qaida. It seems to be mostly the media being eager to somehow link “Al-Dubious-Terrorist-Mini-Group” to be a shadow arm related to OBL’s uncle’s cousin’s father’s nephew who is now No. 3 in the hierarchy, soon to be promoted to No.2, when his dead body is found in a smashed up building somewhere in Iraq.
Also note the wording of these attacks/planned attacks being ‘Al-Qaida-inspired’, whatever that means.

I believe that as long as Americans, politicians as well as the media play up the Al Qaida angle (comparable to the Red Menace of the cold war), it is to the advantage of every rag tag gang to pretend to be a part of the Big Boys’ team. I just don’t believe that all the groups claiming to be Al Qaida affiliates from Indonesia to Sudan necessarily have direct contact with A.Q. They just see Israel and the west (and India, to some extent) as the common enemy and are sending a message of solidarity in hatred and criminal intent.
