For some people nothing President Obama does can pass leadership muster. To paraphrase Hillary Clinton, "If Barack Obama walks on water, some will criticize him for not knowing how to swim."

Okay, okay, so Obama bowed  a bit too deeply before the emperor of Japan.  May be he wasn't coached properly by the White House protocol office. Or perhaps, he is just too polite. Whatever. At least he didn't hold hands and do a silly dance with the Saudi royals. And since when is Dick "shoot your friend in the face" Cheney the model of courteous behavior?

  1. I don’t know about the ‘not coached properly by the WH protocol office’. It does seem that they have been reading Wikipedia and decided to have Obama go lower for a very formal bow rather than just a formal bow. Plus, the height differential between the emperor and Obama would make it difficult to not accentuate the bow depth.
Bow-wow talk is no more than the dogs of media barking (especially Fox News). It’s another distraction from more important stuff, and takes some of the media spotlight off the lipsticked pig…er pitbull…er Palin.

  2. You know, I thought about the height difference too. Obama is a tall, lanky man. He may have felt that he had to bend down to at least (the much shorter) emperor’s chest level in order for the bow to be formal enough.
By the way, are you planning to read Sarah Palin’s fictional autobiography? If so, a review will be most welcome here. It can go under the joint category of “Humor / Ignorance & Chutzpah.”

  3. Actually, I’d rather get a mammogram, than read Palin’s prattle. Or maybe I will get a copy of Going Rouge. That’s sure to be more edumacational than analyzing the tealeaves in Sara’s teapot.

  4. For those who can’t resist the trainwreck, here’s a page-by-page analysis of Palin’s purple prose.

  5. Sujatha, according to the latest preventive guidelines, you may be too young for a mammogram.
The link to Jeanne Devon’s commentary on Palin’s book is better at the TPM Cafe than at the Mudflats blog.

  6. Jeanne Devon’s commentary is quite precise, like the better review that NYTimes should have posted, instead of Maureen Dowd’s ‘Am I like Sarah Palin, how shall I count the ways?” version, even if it was only half in jest.
Well, I guess we have succeeded only partially in taking away the limelight from Sarah Palin by focussing on the propriety of Obama’s bow!
PS. The current recommendations by most health authorities on mammogram still remains at 40-49 yrs, so maybe I should try to get one before the insurance companies decide not to cover them based on the task force’s recommendations.
