The A.B. entry in 3 QD's 2011 Politics & Social Science competition has been selected as one of the nine finalists. The three eventual winners will be judged by Professor Stephen M. Walt. It is an honor and a delight (and considerable surprise as well) to have have been deemed competitive by the discerning editors of 3 Quarks Daily.

Remember, everyone, this is Ruchira’s second time as a finalist in that competition — in two different divisions. I haven’t meticulously checked, but I don’t think anyone else has done that.

Seriously though, I am truly honored. I wasn’t wholly surprised when the Leopard made the cut in the literature category. I had written that review with considerable thought and careful attention and my love for the book came through in my writing. But I did have reservations about the relatively short “Mideast” post going up against so many detailed and some scholarly entries. The commentary was composed quickly, driven by an adrenaline rush against Niall Ferguson’s arrogance. There was little scholarship or research that went into it. However, it expressed my true and unadorned feelings in light of recent and distant history. I guess that counts for something.
